Esta instalación videográfica de cuatro pantallas del artista español Gabriel Díaz ofrece una visión fragmentada pero hipnótica, y enormemente lírica, de la hoy continuamente conquistada, pero no por ello menos icónica y vedada, del Everest. Cuatro cámaras fijas registran por partes la montaña durante las diversas horas del día grabando con sutileza los cambios atmosféricos y las fluctuaciones de la luz. Un uso sencillo, aunque elegante, del transcurrir del tiempo en las imágenes que resulta a la vez numínico y perturbador, con el paso onírico de la luz restituyendo una suerte de hito que, aunque representado hasta la saciedad, continúa conservando toda su majestad.
This four-screen video installation by Spanish artist Gabriel Díaz offers a fragmented but hypnotic an higly lyrical view of the now routinely conquered but still iconic and forbidding peak of Mount Everest. Four fixed cameras record subtly different faces of the mountain, cycling through different hours of the day, and recording changes in the weather and fluctuations of the ligth. This simple but elegant use of time-lapse images is both numinous and haunting; the dream-like passage of light and time restoring a kind of sacred aura to this much represented but still imperious landmark.
